Metamorphosis 2012

For research I've found many videos which show the dance rehearsals and Mark Wallinger and Chris Ofili created the backdrops for the performance. I have also found out that it was in London just recently however was not able to get to see it first hand which I think is really gutting because it would've been really good to see as I'm researching it.

Also finding out that Mark Wallinger is involved in it is also good because I had looked at his piece of Diana based on Titians Diana, for my summer project because of his exhibition in the BALTIC, Gateshead.
The whole piece of Metamorphosis was brought together by choreographers, poets and contemporary artists. Based from three paintings which had come from an even greater body of works by Titian which altogether show and reenacts scenes from Metamorphoses across large canvases. Metamorphoses being a poem written  by a Roman poet Ovid. The whole theme for Titian and Ovid is change.

Butterfly World images

On Saturday 29th September I went to Butterfly World, and took photos of the exotic butterflies for research for a 3D/spatial project I was doing but thought it also relevant to this because I was able to capture pictures of butterflies in their youth, some becoming old and ripped, catapillars and when they were in cocoons, so thought it would be good to put some of this on here because its all to do with Metamorphosis.

 The flash of blue in the photo shows how fast and difficult it was to catch this particular type of Blue Butterfly, they wouldn't stay still, and when they did, they kept their wings closed!

 This was a lucky shot after a while of waiting and taking numerous photos of a closed-winged butterfly. This is the one shown in the previous picture in flight. It also shows that this is an older butterfly as its losing its colour and wings are becoming ripped.

 This shows another one of the blue butterflies however this one is younger because it is larger and much more vibrant than the one is it next to. The one it is next to on its left shows the outside of their wings, it was a very dark brown with interesting circles and would definately not have guessed that they were such a bright colour inside.

 This shows the catapillars in various stages in cocooning.

Metamorphosis 2012 - Initial thoughts

As my for personal study I had arrived at the performance of Titian's Metamorphosis 2012, by begining with Renaissance paintings, and also along with Edgar Degas ballerina paintings. The reason I went for Renaissance paintings is because I really like history and also traditional methods of art (although I am interested in other methods) I so appreciate a good painting. I also have a performance background and am very involved in dance, and therefore Degas is a good combination to look at as I like the traditional style of dance such as ballet. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00w749z

At the moment I'm not sure in which direction this will go in because I looked up the word Metamorphosis in relation to Butterflies, however came across this which also works really well so I've decided to go with it. I think that I will look up the Metamorphosis 2012 and find out about each of the separate components and each piece to see how it all fits together in relation and why.
